Setting Up Your Longboard Deck
If you have ordered a board for riding, you will most likely need some trucks, wheels and hardware to get you on the road! We can offer this set up to customers within New Zealand (while our current stocks last) but as these are manufactured overseas, we are hesitant to ship them back overseas due to the fuel required. It will be a lot cheaper (and sustainable!) for you to purchase these extra parts closer to your home.
Any good board shop will be able to provide you with this gear and put it together for you.
If you order a rideable board, it will come with bolts and nyloc nuts. The drill holes are a standard size so you can fit regular longboard trucks to your hand-built deck.
In terms of your gear:
TRUCKS: We recommend 180mm trucks (you don’t need special drop-through trucks if that's your board shape.) Regular longboard trucks will fit to both our 'Classic' and 'Drop-through' shapes. Paris are a good basic brand but the American Gullwings are the best.
WHEELS: Any longboard wheels should be fine. (Please be aware these are cruising and commuting boards only).
BEARINGS: We prefer Abec 7s.
GRIPTAPE: Regular longboard grip if you’d like it (we ride without as their essentially sheets of plastic and as we're trying to recycle, this would be going against our grain.)
If you are going DIY in the set, you will need:
Depending on your board type (Classic or Drop-through), this is how it should look when it all comes together:
If you do need little more assistance, you can take your board and gear to a local board shop or look at the mass of resources on You Tube.
